Captivate Digital Nomads: Essential Amenities for Your RV Park to Attract Work-on-the-Go Professionals

September 6, 2023

It wasn’t that long ago that Digital Detox was the go-to marketing phrase for attracting more people to our RV Parks/Resorts/Campgrounds.  The idea that we needed an escape from all our technology was attractive and many of us jumped on the bandwagon.  After all, who didn’t want to just leave it all behind and escape?

My how times have changed.  The fact was then and is now that we don’t leave our technology behind.  We carry it with us everywhere we go.  Digital Detox morphed into Leave the Office behind but keep all your technology with you.

Were you truly expecting people to have their kids leave their xBox behind?  To forget about streaming their favorite shows?  Or to even ignore emails from the boss?

Fast forward to today when we have a number of workers who don’t report to the office.  (BTW, this isn’t as new as some media may make it sound). We have guests who bring their families for a week stay at our RV Parks/Resorts/Campgrounds, but also work their job from their RV’s, Cabins, or Glamping accommodations.

It’s time to start looking at the amenities we offer and the amenities that our guests may be looking for.

Extremely High Level of Importance:

1. Reliable and High-Speed Internet

This shouldn’t come as a surprise.  We all need and want Reliable and High-Speed Internet.  This is even more important when you are depending on it to do your job.  We all are faced with the fact that our WIFI capabilities are dependent on so many different things that make the dependability and reliability an issue.

Make sure that you have the best you can possibly offer.

High Importance:

2. Work-Friendly Spaces:

Have you ever considered trying to work from ~300 sq.ft. of space with someone else coming in and out?  Or wanting to watch TV? Or cooking?

Believe me, this isn’t an easy thing to do, even with noise-cancelling headphones.

Consider providing co-working spaces or designated areas that are quiet and have tables, power outlets and comfortable seating.

Even better, remember those hard-wired access points that were put in centuries ago to allow guests to check their email?  (I know I’m dating myself, but there you go.). Consider putting in a wireless router and allowing your digital nomads to logon.  You can even make this a small profit center!

3. Recreational Facilities and Activities:

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.  This old adage is as true today as it was in 1659 when it was first published.

Consider making that outdoor gym that we talked about.  While you are at it, consider buying some old lockers or storage bins that will lock and setting them up next to your co-working space.  Now your guest can store their items away while they take a 20-minute walk to help work out the problem that they are facing.

Moderate Level of Importance:

4. Community and Social Events:

Consider putting together social gatherings that target the Digital Nomads that are currently staying with you.

Think about offering a workshop that talks about being a Digital Nomad and suggestions/ideas for how to work smarter while on the road. Or give them some unique events.

Conclusion:

Attracting Digital Nomads to your RV Park/Resort/Campground requires understanding and catering to their unique needs.  Prioritize your amenities such as reliable high-speed internet, work-friendly spaces, community events, etc. to create an inviting environment.

Don’t miss out on this growing demographic of travelers who can bring added value to your business.

As an added benefit, you just might find someone to help you with that pesky technology bug that you have been trying to fix.
